Torrey Pines has served as the host for the Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour in either January or February since the late 1960’s. The tournament is known for utilizing both courses for the first two rounds and the South Course for the final two rounds.
The U.S. Open was last played at Torrey Pines in 2008, where, interestingly enough, Tiger Woods won his last major in a thrilling 19-hole playoff over Rocco Mediate. Woods, who extended the tournament with a pair of birdies on the 18th hole on the next to last day of the event, won his third U.S. Open of his career and it placed the reigning No. 1 player just four behind Jack Nicklaus for the all-time record.

The rural-San Diego course is also the site of the San Diego City Amateur Golf Championships every June and the Junior World Golf Championships every July.
