Are you one of the many amateur golfers who prefer to hit 3-wood off the tee as opposed to your driver? If so, the newest club release from TaylorMade is right in your wheel house.
TaylorMade’s new SLDR Mini Driver combines the best qualities of its big brother driver with the accuracy benefits of a fairway wood. The 260 cc clubhead in the Mini Driver is designed to promote more distance than your typical 3-wood while increasing your accuracy thanks to a low center of gravity and high MOI.
According to TaylorMade, a high percentage of golfers prefer to use their 3-wood off the tee. However, most modern fairway woods are designed to help pick the ball off the turf as opposed to sweeping it off a peg. The SLDR Mini Driver challenges this norm, offering players a wood that features a low spin-rate and high launch angle that is just as effective off the tee as it could be out of the rough.
“Tour pros and betters amateurs often hit their 3-wood off the tee more often than from the fairway,” said Brian Bazzel, TaylorMade’s Senior Director of Metalwood Creation. “We embraced that fact to create a metalwood that’s sized between a 3-wood and driver and is designed to be easy to hit off a tee.”
“The SLDR Mini Driver is intended to appeal to a wide audience,” added Bazzel. “For the Tour pro or top amateur who places a premium on distance control and accuracy, this club is a fantastic option. It’s also a great choice for those amateurs who struggle with 460cc drivers.”
The TaylorMade SLDR Mini Driver will retail for $279 and will be available in stores starting May 2.
