1. Rory McIlroy
While cases can be made for anyone else on this list, as well as a few others who were left off, the overwhelming favorite coming into this week even before he’s shown a game that is peaking, has been Rory McIlroy. When Quail Hollow was named the site of the PGA in 2010, it was almost fate. McIlroy had won his first PGA Tour event at Quail only a few months earlier.
Since then, McIlroy has posted five other top-10 finishes on the property, including another win in 2015. Given his affinity for the course, a game that is rounding into shape and a weather forecast that has been familiar in all of his previous four major championship victories, every pick sheet this week needs to lean on McIlroy to be the favorite to take home his third Wanamaker Trophy.
