Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson battled back and forth for a major championship that will not be soon forgotten. Stenson became the first Scandinavian man to win the Claret Jug with a record 20-under par, but it did not come without drama. Stenson crawled into second place one shot behind Mickelson at the conclusion of the second round. He then flipped the script and overtook Phil at the end of the third round by one stroke, but both players were five shots ahead of the rest of the field, setting up for one of the greatest final-round duels in golf history. Stenson came back from a one-shot deficit after carding five birdies on the front nine, but not without Mickelson fired back with a birdie and an eagle of his own. Stenson’s 51-foot bomb from off the green on 15 opened up a lead he’d never relinquish claiming his first major championship.
