With age and longevity comes prestige, which is why Shinnecock Hills is one of the best courses in the state. Having opened in 1891, it is considered to be one of the first golf clubs in the United States, and was historical from the start, as is also the first to allow women, something they always did. With the course being one of the first in the USGA. it has been the site of 5 U.S. Opens, most recently in 2018, with it already on tap to host the event again in 2026.
