A good way to practice speed control that a lot of players use is a ladder or leapfrog drill — trying to hit one putt five feet, then the next 10 feet, and so on. In reality, it doesn’t take that much skill to continually hit the ball harder, so try doing this drill in reverse. Start out at 20 feet and then try to hit it 15 feet, then 10, then five. You’re going to find out that’s a little more difficult than you think.
