During the backswing, the inclination of the hips and torso is really important to getting your club on the proper arc. At address, I have an alignment rod through my belt loops and during the backswing I want to make sure that my trail hip is working up and my shoulders are at a tilt.
With the alignment rod, you can definitely see that my pelvis has worked backward and up. That’s going to allow the club to work in a circle to deliver the club from the inside. What you want to avoid is a very level hip turn, which prevents us from getting enough depth in the backswing.
