I’ve got a drill to help you understand how you’ve got to move the club in the bunker. You want speed in the bunker by getting your hands and the club moving as fast as they can.
Take two short irons and use your hands to flip the club over your head in front of you. Do this with both clubs. I’m just trying to flip it up over my head and get in front of me. That gets my hands cocking and that’s why I get speed coming through. When I hit the shot, instead of taking a full swing and turning and not cocking my wrists and getting lots of width in the bunker, I want to feel like that club gets lots of distance from the ball because my hands have set it here. This will give you a much better chance of getting out of the bunker every time.
