The key to ball positioning is understanding the implications of where the ball is in your stance and how it will impact the shot shape as a result of swing path.
A ball in the middle of your stance will result in a relatively straight shot, while one that is a little further back in the stance will promote more of a draw based on the inside-out path required to make contact with the ball in that position. Conversely, a ball up in your stance, or towards your front foot, promotes a more out-to-in club path, which results in more of a fade ball flight.
