Utilizing a fairway wood or hybrid around the greens can be a very effective play around the greens. The thinner face on these clubs encourages faster ball speed than a putter would, but also provides the security in keeping the ball low to the ground.
A few adjustments need to be made in the setup to accommodate the additional length in these clubs versus using a wedge. Standing closer to the ball allows us to stand the grip of the club up taller, thus allowing us to make a similar stroke to a putting stroke.
