In order to optimize our backswing to create a fade, as we get to the top of the backswing, we want to begin to get laid out with respect to the plane while keeping our body weight centered-to-forward in our stance. Reducing the depth of our hand path in the backswing allows us to get our shoulders back on top of our pelvis quickly, which makes it easier to produce that outside-in path through the ball.
