The problem most amateurs have with the punch shot is that they take the name too literally and punch their club into the ground, which makes the ball get up quickly. Instead of trying to force the ball out of trouble, hit a nice body shot with the ball slightly back in your stance and your weight moving through impact that will result in the nice low shot that will get you out of trouble.
