Nothing beats cracking a cold one on the golf course. With the weather heating up and the golf courses filling up, there’s nothing better than having a great brew to sip on as you head around the course.

To celebrate “New Beers Eve” today and National Beer Day tomorrow, here are 10 great American beers to throw back during or after your round.


Six Point The Crisp – Brooklyn, New York 

Six Point The Crisp (5.4%) is a German-style pilsner that is unlike any other. Floral aromas from 100% German sourced Tettnang and Hallertau hops leap from the glass, or can that’s sitting in the cup holder of your golf cart, and gives way to a surprisingly clean and refreshing finish. That should quench your thirst on a hot day out on the links.

New Belgium Fat Tire (5.2% ABV) started as a craft beer and continues to remain true to its roots even though its more widely distributed today than it was several years ago. Styled after a Belgium ale, its balance between malt and herbal hops with a touch of fruity yeast offers drinkers, and more specifically golfers, a wonderful experience on or off the course.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (5.6% ABV) is the every man’s pale ale. Born in Chico, California, this smooth yet complex ale goes well with really any occasion, especially during or after a round of golf. Check out some of their seasonal ales as well. 

Pikes Peak Gold Rush – Monument, Colorado

Pikes Peak Gold Rush (8.7% ABV) is a Belgium inspired full-flavor golden ale with notes of clove, honey, and baking spice. It’s a perfect beer to drink outside in the sunshine and tastes even better on a golf course. After one or two of these, the swing starts feeling loose in the best way possible. 

Goose Island IPA – Chicago, Illinois 

Goose Island IPA (5.9% ABV) is a hoppy ale with a fruity aroma and a long dry finish. Now owned by AB InBev, it can be found across the U.S. more often than not. Guess people caught on. If you’re wondering what that green can is with the goose on it in the cooler in the halfway house, now you know it’s delicious.

Allagash White – Portland, Maine

Allagash White (5.1% ABV) is a Belgian-style wheat beer brewed with oats, malted wheat, and unmalted raw wheat for a hazy, “white” appearance. It also has a special blend of spices including coriander and Curaçao orange peel. First brewed in 1995, this beer a perfect compliment to whatever hole you’re playing. 

Harpoon IPA – Boston, Massachusetts

Harpoon IPA (5.9% ABV) was one of the first IPAs to be brewed on the east coast back in 1993. It’s a crisp balanced take on a classic style. Floral and citrus hop notes combine with a sturdy malt backbone to impart a clean, fresh finish. You may be disappointed with the state of your game, but this brew will never let you down.

Yuengling – Potsville, Pennsylvania

Yuengling’s traditional lager (4.5% ABV) is a light, crisp, refreshing brew to crack open on the course. Known as the oldest brewery in America, they’ve been crafting beers since 1829. This is their staple with its traditional rich amber color and medium-bodied flavor.

Shiner Bock – Shiner, Texas

Shiner Bock (4.4% ABV) is the flagship beer for Spoetzl Brewery, which happens to be the oldest independent brewery in Texas. This bock-style dark lager is light in hops and has a smooth finish. Perfect to throw back between golf shots. 

Budweiser – St. Louis, Missouri

Budweiser (5% ABV) is synonymous with American beer. This traditional lager has been a staple for the red, white and blue since 1876. Something about cracking one open on the course makes just makes you proud to be an American.
