Jack Nicklaus and his design team are responsible for upwards of 400 golf courses in 41 countries around the world. His tracks have hosted about 900 championships and 142 tour stops. In honor of this week’s Memorial Tournament, hosted by Jack and played at his crown jewel Muirfield Village, here are 10 great Golden Bear designed courses.
Muirfield Village Golf Club – Dublin, Ohio
We get this list started with one of Jack’s finest designs. Muirfield Village Golf Club located in Dublin, Ohio was the dream and work of Nicklaus, in association with Desmond Muirhead. The land was acquired in 1966, but construction did not begin until July 28, 1972. The golf course is situated on 220 acres, which includes an 11-acre driving range. The 18-hole layout played at 6,978 yards in its original form but is 7,337 at present. It had 77 bunkers, a number since reduced to 71, and water can be a hazard on 11 holes. People often reference the similarities the course has to Augusta National. It has played host to the Memorial Tournament, which Jack now hosts, since 1976. Check it out.
