It’s never too late to kick old habits and start fresh. One of those things should include eating habits, especially on the golf course. Sure, it’s easy to throw down a hot dog or a candy bar at the turn, but those will only slow you down as you’re coming home.
So whether you need a mid-round or mid-week pick me up, here’s a list of 10 wholesome and simple snacks ideas to take to the course.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
We start with this list off with a timeless classic. That same PB&J you enjoyed as a kid is a solid snack for the golf course. Packed with protein from the peanut butter and a quick burst of sugar from the jelly, this simple staple is a sure pick-me-up. It’s up to you if you prefer to leave the crusts on or not.
Sunflower seeds aren’t just for baseball anymore. These salty snacks are perfect to pass the time during a lengthy round at the local muni, as well as provide some sort of nourishment. Just be sure you spit smartly. Nobody wants half-eaten shells in their line.
Cheese is a nice little snack for the course. It provides a wealth of protein, healthy fats and carbohydrates. Anything from cheddar to mozzarella will do. While you may need to bring a cooler for self-cut cubes on a hot day, pre-packaged peelable cheeses would do fine in your bag.

Peanuts, cashews, almonds and everything in between will do for the course. Nuts are a solid source of energy packed with protein and will fill you up. They are easy to store in the golf bag and can last a while. We recommend trying to stay away from the salted ones for dehydration purposes.
Hard boiled eggs may seem odd to eat on the course, but it’s worth it. They keep well and provide an excellent source of protein and healthy fats to satisfy your hunger without that extra jolt of sugar. Your weekly foursome will thank you.
Granola bars are a perfect way to satisfy your hunger on the course. They come in a million different varieties from various brands, so try as many as you can until to find your favorite. They are a perfect way to refuel at the turn and finish the round strong.
Just because you are drinking a protein shake doesn’t mean you need to know the way to the gym. This healthy cocktail provides protein (obviously), along with amino acids, carbs and healthy fats to keep you fresh for your round. They also provide hydration which is essential on a hot day.
You’ve heard it once and you’ll hear it again now: eat your vegetables. Veggies are a perfect simple snack on the course. Cut up some carrot or celery sticks, and if you want to be crazy, slice up some cucumber for a quick, refreshing bite while you’re in between shots.
Beef jerky is the polar opposite of vegetables, but there’s a reason it grabs this spot on the list. It’s a perfect snack loaded with protein and provides the energy needed to make a solid swing. There are plenty of options out there, but we recommend something natural. Nobody needs more salt.
Fruit grabs the top spot on the list for obvious reasons. Apples, oranges, bananas, you name it, we approve. Simple and delicious, they are filled with essential nutrients which provide a natural burst of energy without the crash. Throw a few in your bag before the round so at least you can say you tried being healthy.
