For the past six years, the man they call “Big Papi” has hosted a celebrity golf tournament in his native Dominican Republic. The most recent David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic took place last month at the Punta Espada Golf Club in Punta Cana, and added to the more than $2 million that the event has raised for the David Ortiz Children’s Fund.

Though the Red Sox slugger and 2013 World Series MVP doesn’t golf, Ortiz is always a big presence on the course. And actually, one of his participants got him to take a swing this year – a baseball swing at a golf ball.
The guest was Trevor Consavage, a professional long drive and golf trick shot entertainer who posted video of the event this week. One of his acts was to chip a golf ball straight up into the air, then grab a baseball bat and hit the ball down the fairway. Former major leaguer Ivan Rodriguez successfully mimicked the feat, then Consavage chipped a ball up for Ortiz to take a swing at. Only that one wasn’t a typical golf ball.
That’s a bold move, pranking the host. But Papi seemed to enjoy it.
