Tragedy has struck at a golf course less than 11 miles away from the host course of this week’s PGA Tour event.
An employee at the Golf Course at Terra Lago in Indio, Calif. is dead after the caged maintenance cart he was driving became submerged in a canal that runs through the 36-hole property.
Officers and firefighters responded to the course just after 2 p.m. on Monday. Upon pulling the cart from the canal, firefighters declared the man dead at the scene.
It is common for maintenance carts at golf courses to employ a cage in order to keep workers driving the course safe from errant golf balls.
