What a winter, huh? The polar vortex is back and despite the fact that we’re not even to February, “2014 North American cold wave” already has its own Wikipedia page. That’s akin to making a relationship “Facebook official” – you know something’s a big deal when it has its own Wikipedia page.
But you want to know who’s not despising this wicked winter? The Pocono Lake Region Chamber of Commerce, which is in northeastern Pennsylvania. The frigid temperatures and subsequent freezing of Lake Wallenpaupack made ideal conditions for the organization’s annual Ice Tee Golf Tournament on Sunday. Only it hasn’t exactly been “annual” because the area was too warm the past two years.
Nine-degree weather, however, left little concern about whether a tournament would be played this year. According to the Scranton (Pa.) Times-Tribune, 167 golfers participated and the event raised between $2,000 and $3,000. Not bad for a golf tournament in the middle of a polar vortex.
