Clemens’ Miraculous Par Save At The CareerBuilder

Roger Clemens carries a 5.2 handicap, making him a very solid player, but the par save he made on 17 at PGA West on Saturday during the CareerBuilder Challenge was equal parts 20-handicapper and scratch.

Facing one of Pete Dye’s famous island greens coming down the stretch aptly named “Alcatraz,” Clemens missed his tee shot so badly that he got over the water hazard guarding the green. From there, all the seven-time Cy Young Award winner did was hit a fantastic flop shot from a downhill lie, barely holding land and then, a simple 75-footer for par followed.

There are no pictures on a scorecard, but that video captured by NBC should be played on a loop whenever you enter Clemens’ house.

Clemens shot a net score of 12-under par for three days, missing the amateur cut by 17 (!) strokes. There may have been some sandbagging going on.
