Golf is a game of history and tradition, but behind all of the rules and etiquette are players out on the course to get away from the stress and pressure of their everyday lives. Partnering with our friends at Skratch, SxS is proud to bring you “The Shank brought to you by Skratch,” a look at the lighter side of the game each week. As the folks at Skratch say, “It’s just golf. Try not to take it so seriously”
Golf is a game that has plenty of buzz words, many of which inspire a certain feeling in players. None of those words, however, conjure the visceral reaction like “shank.”
To some, “shank” is the eighth dirty word that shouldn’t be said on television. Golfers avoid using the word for fear that a simple uttering of the s-word will inflict them with their own case of the hosel rockets. Embracing their motto, Skratch is out to destigmatize the horizontal mishit by playing off the Discovery Channel’s insanely popular “Shark Week” with their homage to the Spanish Fade, #ShankWeek.
If you have videos of you or your friends hitting terrible shanks, we’d love to see them.

No one is immune to catching one flush off of the hosel, even the best players in the world. Just how prolific is a case of the laterals on the game’s biggest stage? Enough to fill a 60-second video with a shank per second.
