The Dan Patrick Show is on site this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which is a great thing for golf fans who enjoy the special brand of sports radio that Patrick and his Danettes provide.
Kicking off their coverage of the event on Thursday morning, six-time major champion and CBS color analyst Sir Nick Faldo joined the guys in their temporary studio on the back of the Pebble Beach Golf Links driving range, and just before going on the air, gave Dan and his producers an impromptu on swing tempo and shot shaping, most of which was very insightful.
However, with a devilish grin on his face, Faldo went from the smooth swing of Louis Oosthuizen to the fade a la Jason Day to the draw via Adam Scott. After hitting a tight right-to-left shot, Faldo then said, “If I wanted to hit it across a lake…”
At that point, something seemed off. Was he going to show Dan and the Danettes how to skip a ball across a pond like players do on the 16th hole at Augusta National? No, he was going to poke a little fun at Rory McIlroy.
“If I want to hit it across a lake, I pretend I’m Rory McIlroy,” Faldo said. “And if it goes in the lake, you go…[throws club down the range].”
Faldo’s joke, of course, is in reference to McIlroy’s mini-meltdown at the 2015 World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship at Doral when an errant second shot found the water fronting the par-5 8th hole as did his 3-iron shortly after impact.
Here is Sir Nick’s full interview with Patrick.
