SwingU instructor, on-air talent and ambassador Ryan Rustand was in France this week to compete in the inaugural World Golf Tricks Cup on Thursday at the Ryder Cup City Hall Fan Zone.
The World Golf Tricks Cup was composed of two sessions. Rustand competed against European trick shot artists Romain Bechu and Mathias Schjoelberg, losing the first session, but winning the second.
The first session was a tennis or volleyball style back-and-forth over a 3-foot wall, which Rustand lost. However, in the second half, a freestyle session, Rustand took down his European counterparts.
“It’s an honor to travel to Paris and represent my country by doing what I love,” Rustand said. “I believe competitions like this one can help generate a broader interest in golf. If we can inspire just one person to pick up a club, then we’re doing something right.”
Among the fans and spectators of the event was Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris.
“This was special,” Rustand commented on Instagram. “Just before competing in the first-ever World Golf Tricks Cup, the mayor of Paris @annehidalgo came to say hello. What a journey my passion is taking me on. Never in a million years did I think I’d be sitting here posting this picture from the heart of Paris. Couldn’t do it without the support from you guys! Thank you all so much for making this possible. And big thanks to @callawaygolfeu for sponsoring a great event! Can’t wait for the next one! #frompariswithlove”
Rustand will take his versatile star power to the Ryder Cup on Saturday as a VIP guest of BMW to cheer on Team USA as they aim to retain the trophy against Team Europe.
