The much-anticipated and delayed release of the 2018-19 PGA Tour schedule was finally announced on Tuesday. The primary objective of the major overhaul was to ensure a more robust and engaging fan experience with at least one marquee event taking place each month from March until September.
Exciting changes await.

“We are extremely pleased with the way the schedule has come together, particularly with the number of changes that were involved and the strength of the partnerships required to achieve this new look,” PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in the Tour’s release. “It’s been our stated objective for several years to create better sequencing of our tournaments that golf fans around the world can engage in from start to finish. And by concluding at the end of August, the FedEx Cup Playoffs no longer have the challenge of sharing the stage with college and professional football. This will enhance the visibility of the FedEx Cup Playoffs and overall fan engagement with the PGA Tour and the game as a whole.”
Among the big changes to the schedule was the Tour’s flagship event, the Players Championship, moving from its perch in May back to March where the event was held for 30 years prior to 2017. This move is being made to accommodate the PGA Championship, which will now be played in May as the second major championship of the season.
The move to May for the PGA Championship kicks off with the 2019 edition at Bethpage Black, the first of three to be held in the New York City area over the next five years.
One of the biggest initiatives of Commissioner Monahan was to wrap up the FedEx Cup Playoffs before the NFL football regular season began, which has been accomplished by eliminating one playoff event. The FedEx Cup Playoffs in 2019 will be The Northern Trust (Aug. 8-11) at Liberty National in Jersey City, N.J., The BMW Championship (Aug. 15-18) at Medinah in Illinois and the Tour Championship (Aug. 22-25) at East Lake in Atlanta with TPC Boston alternating hosting duties of The Northern Trust every other year.
Other changes include the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Quicken Loans National and FedEx St. Jude Classic are done for good in their current iterations. The WGC will be moved to Memphis and played the week after the Open Championship. Detroit and Minnesota are getting events; Detroit’s takes the place of the Quicken Loans National and the Minnesota-based 3M Open will take the Greenbrier’s Tour date, with the West Virginia stop moving to the fall to accommodate. The Houston Open will also be held in the fall.
