Oh Canada. The country’s hopes lie in the hands of a 21-year-old amateur from British Columbia, Jared du Toit. After a third-round 2-under par 70, du Toit, who plays his college golf at Arizona State, has earned a spot in the final pairing and is chasing a good bit of history. Should he pull off the unlikely win on Sunday at Glen Abbey Golf Club, du Toit would be the first amateur to win on the PGA Tour since Phil Mickelson in 1991 and he would be the first Canadian to win his home open since 1954.
To hoist the trophy, du Toit will have to surpass 54-hole leader and 2013 Canadian Open champion Brandt Snedeker who has shot rounds of 68-73-66 to hold the one stroke advantage. Dustin Johnson is also one shot back of Snedeker after shooting his second consecutive round of 71.
