Golfstradamus: Waste Management Phoenix Open

“Guess who’s back, guess who’s back, guess who’s back…”

                                                                                       – Eminem

That’s right! Golfstradamus is back in print! I’ve decided to take time out of my busy schedule to help you, dear reader. I know, I know – you’re welcome. Don’t worry, I missed you, too! I’m happy to be back, bringing you all the knowledge you crave even if you don’t always deserve it. Now, let’s get down to business…

The PGA Tour is in Arizona this week for the Waste Management Phoenix Open, which pretty much means that golf season is officially here! Sure, most of you are stuck under a gazillion inches of snow so it doesn’t feel like it is – but it is. Trust me. And since most of you missed work the last two days trying to dig out of the snowpocalypse, you’re probably looking to make a couple extra bucks this weekend to make up for it. As usual, I’m here to help – so get your pencils ready.

First up is Bubba Watson. If you’ll remember, Bubba nearly won this event last year before falling apart at the end, giving Kevin Stadler his first career win. He bounced back, of course, winning the Northern Trust Open and Masters in the weeks that followed. Surely, his collapse won’t be on his mind in Phoenix this year and at 15/1, few favorites will be a better bet all year.

Next up are Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, who are both getting 20/1 this week. Lefty shook the rust at the Humana last week, playing well late – while Tiger will be making his much-anticipated 2015 debut at TPC Scottsdale. Tiger has never won here, but Phil almost owns the place, having captured four Phoenix Open titles. Both players deserve a bet this week.

My sleeper picks for the Waste Management are Scott Piercy and J.B. Holmes. Piercy is off to a great start in 2015, having collected two top-10 finishes already, including a runner-up at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Forty-to-one money is excellent for him, considering he’s posted five top-15 finishes in his last six trips to the Stadium course.

Holmes, on the other hand, hasn’t been too impressive this year, but he does enjoy the desert and won there back in 2003. He’s getting 80/1 money, which is a very nice pay out for a low risk/high reward pick. You’d be nuts not to throw a couple shekels his way this week.

Halfway around the world in Dubai, the European Tour is action at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. There’s not much to talk about there since Rory McIlroy is in the field. He’s the favorite and is paying a paltry 3/1. Other than Rors, two great bets to have solid weeks are Bernd Wiesberger at 25/1 and Graeme McDowell at 30/1. Other than that, you’ve got no reason to spend your money here.

Draft Kings

Recently, I’ve joined — one of our favorite partners. DraftKings, of course, is the place where you can join weekly games so you’re not stuck with the same roster for an entire season – as a fun way to make more money using my gifts of prediction. I drafted my team for this week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, and you can too! If you want to test your skills against mine, join the PGA $30K Mini Winter Golf Classic and see how you stack up against ol’ Golfstradamus. Here’s a look at the winning team:

Robert Allenby
Patrick Reed
Chesson Hadley
Jordan Spieth
Hideki Matsuyama
Robert Streb

That’s all for now, friends and degenerate wagers. Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s been far too long since I’ve fallen down the wormhole that is Anna Kendrick’s sub-Reddit. Until next time, go and choose wisely….
