Member’s Bounces: Golf’s Most Memorable Lucky Breaks

Just as it does in everyday life, luck plays a rather big role in the game of golf. In fact, sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.

Just ask Marcel Siem.

During the first round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge on the European Tour, Siem made an eagle thanks to one of the most fortuitous bounces you’ll ever see on a golf course. And with that eagle, he won himself a new Volvo V40 T5.

So to recap: The collar turned a good shot into an eagle … and a brand-spanking new car for Siem. That’s what a little luck will do for you.

After seeing Siem’s lucky bounce, we began to think about some of the best “member’s bounces” in golf. With respect to your buddy’s epic off-the-oak double-bogey, these lucky breaks had a bit more cash on the line. Here are our top choices:

Ricochet-ace for a new BMW

Darren Clarke goes off the rocks

Greg Chalmers nearly makes ace off of a fan

Louis Oosthuizen rides the cart path … forever

Bubba Watson goes from bogey to birdie

Jamie Lovemark bounces ball out of the water and to safety

Chris Couch hits a rock … three times

Fred Couples’ lucky bounce leads to eagle

J.B. Holmes uses rocks to his advantage, too
