Seven Golf Tournaments Make SI’s Top-100 Sports Moments List

Everybody loves lists and Sports Illustrated released a pretty thorough one earlier this week, counting down the Top-100 Greatest Moments in Sports History. Unlike other all-encompassing sporting countdowns, golf got its fair shake on SI’s list, showing up seven times. Not bad for a niche sport with no future.

Let’s see what events made the list and where they checked in:

No. 97: “Duel in the Sun” — Jack Nicklaus vs. Tom Watson at the 1977 Open Championship

No. 69: “The Greatest Year In Golf” — Bobby Jones’ Grand Slam in 1930

No. 57: “Amazing Arnold” — Arnold Palmer Wins the 1960 U.S. Open

No. 43: “Tiger Burning Bright” — Tiger Woods Wins the 2000 U.S. Open

No. 42: “Babe’s Crowning Achievement” — Babe Zaharias Wins the 1954 U.S. Women’s Open

No. 17: “Yes, Sir!” — Jack Nicklaus Wins the 1986 Masters

No. 7: “The Rise of Tiger” — Tiger Woods Wins the 1997 Masters
