Steven Bowditch is the world’s fourth-highest ranked Australian golfer, but the 32-year-old Newcastle man shot rounds of 77-72 en route to a missed cut at his home nation’s Australian UNIQLO Masters at Huntingdale Golf Club this week.
On Thursday, Bowditch was coming off of a double bogey on the 10th hole, making him 5-over par for the week. Clearly struggling with his driver, the 2015 AT&T Byron Nelson champion turned over his tee ball and sent it hurling into a natural area where there was only one unlucky spectator.
Said unlucky spectator took Bowditch’s drive off of his face, breaking his nose, according to The Daily Mail. To add more insult to injury, a tournament spokesman said that the spectator needed his nose to be re-broken in order to be properly set.
In a happy conclusion, Bowditch was able to make par on the hole and the fan was able to return to the grounds to watch more golf after receiving medical attention.
