Nation’s Top Sophomore Joins SwingU As Collegiate Ambassador

SwingU, the golf technology and media company, has signed J.M. Butler, the No. 4-ranked player in Golfweek’s Men’s Collegiate Individual Rankings, as a SwingU Collegiate Ambassador.

Butler is the top-ranked sophomore in the country and was recently named one of 15 finalists for the Fred Haskins Award, along with current SwingU Ambassador Cameron Sisk of Arizona State. The Haskins Award is presented annually to the most outstanding men’s collegiate golfer, as voted on by players, coaches and media members.

Butler will use SwingU’s elite statistics platform to accurately and objectively provide feedback on five key areas of his game as he intends to carry the momentum of a strong fall season into the spring.

“SwingU is a lot more convenient, and a lot more simplistic than other strokes gained platforms. It is much easier to read the data, and I think that’s very important,” Butler said. “SwingU gives you all the information that you need. It gives you basically the same feedback that a program like BirdieFire does, but it’s a lot easier to input the information.”

A member of the Southeastern Conference’s All-Freshman team in 2021, Butler began his sophomore campaign in historic fashion by shooting 17-under-par in the Tigers’ first tournament of the year, the Maui Jim Invitational, to smash the record for lowest 54-hole score in program history and win the individual medalist honors.

Butler notched a 67.5 scoring average this fall, highlighted by his win at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate and his T5 finish at the Isleworth Collegiate. Only a little over a season into his collegiate career, Butler has already notched one tournament win, six top-20 finishes, and 19 rounds at or below par.

Since the start of 2021, more than 100 active professional and top-tier collegiate golfers are using the SwingU App and performance data platform to track their strokes gained and game-improvement data.
