SwingU, the sports technology and media company, would like to congratulate SwingU Collegiate Ambassador Nick Sutton of Tennessee Tech University for winning the Battle at Black Creek individual title.
Sutton, a sophomore, started using the SwingU App and its proprietary strokes gained and stat tracking system in September 2021. Just one month later, Sutton fired rounds of 71-66-67 to win his first collegiate title by five shots.
“I really do enjoy SwingU. It’s nice to be able to plug everything in very easily and it spits out your strokes gained for you,” Sutton said. “I like that I’m able to go through and see where I need to pinpoint my practice going forward as well as continuing to work on what I’m doing well.”
What Sutton did well at the Battle at Black Creek was basically everything. Sutton’s driving and approach game picked up +10.3 strokes gained vs. par (+4.4 SG: Driving and +5.9 SG: Approach), while his short game picked up another +5.4 strokes vs. par.
“Coming into the season, I was concentrating really hard on ball-striking and trying to just get better every day,” Sutton said. “I had played the course before in other amateur events, so going into the event, I knew I had to take advantage of the par-5s.”
Sutton did just that, playing the 12 par-5s in 9-under par for the 54-hole event to lead the 96-man field in par-5 scoring, allowing him to take care of business on the par-3s (-2) and par-4s (-1) to coast to a five-shot victory.

For his efforts, Sutton was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Male Golfer of Week for the third time in the fall season, the first time a Golden Eagle has won the award three times in a season since 2015-16.
Sutton joins fellow SwingU Collegiate Ambassadors Cameron Sisk of Arizona State and Caleb Manuel of the University of Connecticut as winners this fall season.
Since the start of 2021, more than 100 active professional and top-tier collegiate golfers are using the SwingU App and performance data platform to track their strokes gained and game-improvement data.
