What You Need To Know
- CoachNow Analyze is a versatile platform designed to cater to various individuals with different coaching and athlete development needs.
- Analyze was created for athletes who want to own their journey, coaches who are just getting started and don’t want to commit to higher-priced software and parents supporting an athlete’s journey / monitoring their improvement.
- CoachNow Analyze is available for $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year.
How do you track your game improvement journey? For me, the answer, until recently, was mostly in my head and all over the place.
I kept my stats exclusively in one app (SwingU), I kept my scores and handicap in another (GHIN), I kept my – admittedly limited – journaling confined to my Notes app, and I kept any swing videos of mine as far from my eyes as possible.
If that doesn’t sound like a very good way to get better at golf, you are correct.
For someone who is a solid player (I’m a +1.6 handicap) with competitive mid-am aspirations, I was (probably intentionally, but somewhat) subconsciously unorganized in my ambitions to attempt to achieve the limits of my potential.
Ed. Note: Just writing that sentence screams that a mental game improvement is needed.
I’m perfectly capable of playing good golf, and I’m willing to put myself out there in competitive situations, but when it comes down to it, I have the scapegoat excuse that I wasn’t fully prepared and I didn’t catch lightning in a bottle this day/week.
It’s a frustrating cycle that I’m sure a lot of golfers in a similar situation can relate to. But I’m tired of the excuses, and given the opportunity to take accountability, be the man in the arena and cultivate expectations instead of hoping for coincidences, I started using CoachNow Analyze.
First Impressions
Working in the golf industry for the last 10+ years and having been a golf sicko for much longer than that, the brand “CoachNow” was one that I’ve heard talked about for years, and that has ratcheted up in the last few thanks to Covid and the online instructional boom.
Never one to have had an instructor or swing coach in my junior golf days, the utility of the application was not one that applied to me. Perhaps knowing there were golfers like myself who either didn’t have a coach, didn’t know how to get in touch with a coach or wanted to forge their own path forward, the CoachNow team developed Analyze, the athlete-specific version of their instructor app.
Utilizing many of the same tools that allow coaches and students to connect virtually, CoachNow Analyze gives the power to the player to choose their own adventure while also making these tools available for coaches with fewer clients or parents who are looking to be involved in their athlete’s improvement journey.
The interface is simple and intuitive. Upon signing up, I created my own Space. Theoretically, this could be for a teacher and student to post, trade videos and messages back and forth, but for me, it’s become my golf diary. Think of it like your own private Facebook group.
Inside, you have all the features that a world-class golf instructor would have: a cloud library that holds up to 250 items and a full video/image analysis suite (including AI-generated skeleton tracking, slow-motion playback, automatic angle detection, VS mode and voice-overs).
Using CoachNow Analyze
Getting set up in CoachNow Analyze was the easy part. Using it – for someone so blissfully opposed to taking on the true improvement journey – was the only difficulty.
As I mentioned above, seeing my swing on video has been known to cause me a physical reaction. I’ve taken the Arnold Palmer “swing your swing,” quote much too literally, and to my own detriment.
But after mustering up the courage to bring a phone holder to the range, I really enjoyed nerding out with the suite of features in the Analyze app. Check out how much cool stuff I did with this swing video in 30 seconds.
- Regular swing video
- AI-generated skeleton
- Turned down the playback to 1/2 speed for more position-to-position analysis
Not only can I do that with my own swing, I can import videos of some of my favorite swings in golf – Rory McIlroy, Max Homa, Louis Oosthuizen – and put them next to each other, or even overlay them if I’m in a truly masochistic mood.
While the video piece is probably the coolest technical piece in the app, I’ve found the simple Space posting to be super beneficial as well. One of the first things I did as import my Secrets To Golf write-up from my Notes app into a post. I’ve also uploaded screenshots of my strokes gained stats from the SwingU app, links to helpful drills I’ve come across and even pinned the aforementioned Man In The Arena speech to my Space.
The convenience of having my personal Space, along with the ability to use video tools like the AI-skeleton, VS mode and adjustable playback speed are things that I thought I needed to invest hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on a top-tier instructor to have access to. All I have to do now is skip one of those Starbucks trips each month, and it pays for itself.
The Takeaway
Look, I’m 36 years old and have three kids between 5 and 10 years old. There are certain things in this life that have passed me by. Playing somewhat high-level amateur golf is one of the things I believe I am still capable of doing with only a little help and commitment required.
CoachNow Analyze is that silver bullet for me. It knocks a bunch of excuses right out the window. It’s very simple to use to keep track of what’s going on throughout my game, from the physical swing and the mental side to more intentional journaliing and stat keeping.
I’d argue that for the value and quality, the price point should be higher, but I’m not complaining. If you’re interested in getting your golf game improvement journey organized and actionable, you’re doing yourself a disservice not to use CoachNow Analyze.
CoachNow Analyze is available for $9.99 per month or $49.00 per year. You can find out more about the company and the app on their website at coachnow.io/analyze.
