SwingU Green Reading Maps: How To Read The StrackaLine Maps On The SwingU App

Since May of 2022, SwingU has offered StrackaLine Green Reading Maps for over 14,000 courses worldwide inside its top-rated app.

Our latest (8.5.3) release continues our commitment to helping golfers shoot lower scores with the addition of five new Green Reading Map variations. Complementing the original StrackLine Heatmap, we’ve now integrated Simple, Slope, Elevation, HiLo and AimPoint topographical maps for the 14,000+ greens in our system for Plus and Pro subscribers.

You may be wondering how to best use these maps, and with the help of our friends at StrackaLine, we’ve put together a handy guide to help you identify which Green Reading Map variation will help you to make the most putts.

Here are the six different Green Reading Maps you’ll find within the SwingU App. We’ve used the 13th green at Augusta National Golf Club as our example below.

Heatmap

Using both arrows and color schemes based on a Slope Percentage line, the Heatmap Green Reading Map shows the severity of the slope based on color (blue = flat; pink = steepest). We also have various percentages listed throughout the green.

Slope

The Slope Green Reading Map is the same to the Heatmap GRM, but this map shows the severity of the slope based on a different color scheme (green = flat; dark red = steepest). We also have various percentages listed throughout the green.

Elevation

The Elevation Green Reading Map shows the golfer the general slope of the green, illuminating the high point (green) and the low point of the green (dark purple) to aid in better judging the speed of putts.

HiLo

The HiLo Green Reading Map is the same as the Elevation GRM, but this map shades the high point (red) and the low point of the green (dark purple) to aid in better judging the speed of putts for those who suffer from color blindness.

Simple

As the name intimates, the Simple Green Reading Map is a color-free map of the green that includes only arrows for every general area of the green as well a few slope percentage points scattered throughout based upon the direction water would flow.

AimPoint

Designed for AimPoint green reading, the AimPoint Green Reading Map is a detailed and expansive view of color-coded arrows and slope percentages for those who use the AimPoint green reading system developed by Mark Sweeney and used by amateurs and Tour pros alike.

*The numbers around the periphery of every green are simply 5-yard markers for the depth of the green.
