The PGA Championship is many in the game’s last chance to salvage a season. While tournament wins and money earned are nice laurels to sit upon, history remembers greatness by the number of majors won.
Sergio Garcia, Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth have all put their name into the history books in 2017 — and they very well may do it again this week at Quail Hollow — but there are any number of other guys chomping at the bit to add their name to the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday evening.
Given the PGA’s large 156-man field, the best in the world will have their hands full separating themselves from the pack. Below, we’ve done our best to narrow that full field down to 10 guys who we’ve come to believe have the best shot at taking home the season’s final major come Sunday evening in Charlotte.
10. Bill Haas
There any number of dark horses who could take this spot — Charley Hoffman, Tony Finau, Kevin Chappell, J.B. Holmes; the list goes on and on — but one guy whose name kept turning up and has remained under the radar is North Carolina resident Bill Haas.
While Haas doesn’t have as strong of a connection to Quail Hollow as resident and member Webb Simpson, he does have a tie in that his father, Jay, is a member, and he’s said he’s played more than 20 rounds outside of competition on the Queen City track. If you’re looking for someone a little off of the beaten path to find the winner’s circle, you could do worse than Haas.
