Patrick Reed captured his first PGA Tour victory since his major breakthrough at the Masters in 2018 on Sunday at The Northern Trust, the first leg of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Reed fired a final-round 2-under par 69 to edge Mexico’s Abraham Ancer by one and Jon Rahm and Harold Varner III by two strokes.
Proving he’s a big-game hunter, Reed now counts among his seven PGA Tour victories a major, a World Golf Championship and two Playoff events, four of the biggest payouts in golf. Reed took home a $1,665,000 winner’s check.
The finish for Ancer was the best of his young career, and earned him some pretty nice perks even though he wasn’t able to raise the trophy on Sunday in New Jersey.
“When I finished I was a little down because I didn’t get it done and I feel like I played good,” Ancer said. “But then getting all this news that I’m going to the Tour Championship, playing the majors, going to the Masters, all that, I was like, Man, this is not too bad. I’m extremely happy, proud of the way I performed today, and like I said, I’m going to keep going. I still obviously want that W, but really proud with all the boxes that I checked off today.”
