APGA Tour’s National TV Debut This Weekend At Torrey Pines

The Advocates Pro Golf Association Tour is ready for its close-up, and it’s coming this weekend on the same course, in the same conditions and with the same pin positions the stars of the PGA Tour played a day prior.

The final round of APGA’s Farmers Insurance Invitational will air on Golf Channel on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. EST, becoming the first nationally broadcast event in the 12-year history of the circuit whose “mission (is) to prepare African Americans and other minority golfers to compete and win at the highest level of professional golf, both on tour and in the golf industry.”

  • “It’s just a great opportunity, and I think it’s going to be one of those watershed moments for diversity in golf,” APGA Tour CEO Ken Bentley said.

This will be the third edition of the Farmers Insurance Invitational, which has been expanded to a two-day event across Torrey Pines’ North Course on Saturday and South Course on Sunday. The winner of the event will earn an exemption into the Korn Ferry Tour’s Simmons Bank Open in May.

On the call for Golf Channel will be the diverse ensemble of Damon Hack (play-by-play), Notah Begay III (analyst), Doug Smith and Jacques Slade (on-course reporters).

The PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open will run Wednesday-Saturday with the full field playing one round on the North Course and one round on the South Course before a 36-hole cut on Thursday.

The third and fourth rounds of the PGA Tour event will take place Friday and Saturday on the South Course while the APGA Farmers Insurance Invitational will begin Saturday on the North Course and conclude Sunday on the South Course.
