Stuard’s One-Hop Ace, Kisner Wins at Colonial

Everybody loves an ace and we were treated to one on Sunday during an exciting final round of the PGA Tour’s Dean & DeLuca Invitational. Brian Stuard was playing the par-3 16th and one-hopped his tee shot from 192-yards right into the hole. The shot propelled him to a scorching back nine 30 and into a tie for 24th finishing at one-under par.

However, the day belonged to Kevin Kisner who posted a closing four-under 66 to claim victory and the coveted plaid jacket at Colonial Country Club. This is the 33-year-old’s second PGA Tour win.

Teeing off in the penultimate group, Kisner went out in a modest one-under 34 and then really got it rolling on the back side by birding four of the first six holes starting with a 40-foot bomb on the par-4 10th. But a bogey on the par-3 16th cut his lead down to one and created some drama down the stretch. After a par on 17, Kisner got it up and down from behind the 18th green knocking in a four-footer for par to seal the victory holding off a trio of guys at nine-under.

Included in the tie for second was Sean O’Hair who posted his second consecutive top-5, and rookie stud Jon Rahm who continues to impress, but missed a 10-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to tie, and Jordan Spieth. The defending champion posted a solid bogey-free five-under 65 answering those pesky “what’s wrong with Jordan Speith” questions after missing two cuts in a row heading into the week.
