In the aftermath of the event, Patrick Reed sounded off on what he called a “buddy system” that primarily takes its cues on possible pairings from a select few people inside the team room.

On Monday evening, a report surfaced that Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka — two of the best players on the team who are generally regarded to be close friends — nearly came to blows and had to be separated during the post-match celebration.

“Witnesses recounted how the pair almost came to blows after they had been invited into the Europe team room, a few hours after the resounding home success at Le Golf National,” The Telegraph‘s James Corrigan wrote.

The reason the two American stars were angered was not known and considered unusual by many in attendance, according to the reports. Johnson’s fiancée, Paulina Gretzky was said to be nearby and, according to a wife of a European player, Gretzky was “clearly shocked and upset by the nastiness, which was very threatening.”
