Dustin Johnson may have cemented his claim as the 2016 PGA Tour Player of the Year with his impressive three-shot win at the BMW Championship on Sunday.
The third leg of the FedEx Cup was DJ’s third victory of the season, adding the BMW trophy to his win at the U.S. Open and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. That threesome — a major, a WGC and a FedEx Cup Playoff event — was last accomplished by Tiger Woods in 2007 and should be enough to best Jason Day’s three wins (none of which were a major) in the eyes of his peers when they vote on the Player of the Year award in the coming weeks.
While Sunday at Crooked Stick had drama near the top of the leaderboard, the FedEx Cup standings created some drama near the 30-man cutoff for the Tour Championship in two weeks.
J.B. Holmes’ par on the last guarantees him a spot in the Tour Championship. It moves Charl Schwartzel in, but knocks Rickie Fowler out.

Holmes finished in a tie for fourth, which was 11 shots back of Johnson’s winning score of 23-under par. Paul Casey finished in second place at 20-under and Roberto Castro was solo third at 17-under par.
