Dustin Johnson can hit a golf ball to places most players would never even consider. When he’s playing well, that’s usually a good thing, leading on-course announcers to describe the area in which one of DJ’s massive drives as the “divot-free zone,” meaning that no one else is hitting their second shots from where he is.
However, with that kind of firepower, when things get a bit loose, Johnson can find himself in some new and interesting places. Still trying to regain his pre-Masters form this week at the RBC Canadian Open, DJ is close to getting back into those divot-free zones in the short grass, but he’s not firing on all cylinders just yet.
Case in point: No. 10 at Glen Abbey Golf Club during the first round of the RBC Canadian Open. Golfweek.com’s Kevin Casey breaks down Johnson’s wayward shot and his hilarious rules inquiry.
From the parking lot?
“Can I have that car moved? We got enough people.”

Dustin Johnson knows how to ask the entertaining question.
The World No. 1 launched a drive at Glen Abbey’s par-4 10th well left during his opening round at the RBC Canadian Open. So far left in fact, that the ball came to rest just inches from a parking lot.
Play was suspended at 3:45 p.m. Eastern due to lightning thereafter, so relief away from the parking lot will have to wait. But the delay did not come before Johnson asked a pretty amusing question about a potential alternative … “Can I have that car moved?”
DJ ended up having to take relief and it cost him. Instead of a relatively unencumbered second shot, Johnson had to find his nearest point of relief, which happened to be in between a few trees. Despite a valiant effort that found a greenside bunker, DJ wasn’t able to get up and down, costing him a stroke.
Johnson signed for a 5-under par 67 that put him three shots back of a host of players including Ollie Schniederjans, Kevin Chappell and Matt Every. Here are the first-round highlights from the PGA Tour.
