Adam Scott: DJ “Hitting it Over Greens With Driver”

This week, the world’s best players are in Mexico City for the WGC-Mexico Championship at the Club de Golf Chapultepec. While you probably don’t know much about the course, what you should know is that it sits at an elevation of 7,835 feet. With the course being a respectable 7,330 yards anywhere else, the elevation will make it play a whole lot shorter than that.

“My driving distance is going to go up hitting 2-iron this week,” new world number one, Dustin Johnson joked, according to Golf Digest. “It’s interesting. The ball goes really far, but it’s been fun trying to figure it all out.”

Figuring it out will be key not only for Dustin, but for all the players and their caddies. Most guys will see roughly a 15 percent increase in their distance compared to what they are used to. While some players will love it, others like Johnson who’s been averaging 314 off the tee this year, don’t exactly need it. In fact, now it’s just getting silly.

“He’s hitting it over the greens with driver,” Adam Scott said about Johnson. “I think there might be a couple of holes where if you’re feeling good, you might want to hit driver and push it up near the green and pitch from 40 yards, which sometimes for us is too close.”

Sounds like a good problem to have. In case you needed any more evidence, Justin Thomas gave us a little taste of his eye-popping TrackMan numbers at the range the other day:

It’s safe to say at 7500 ft elevation this week in Mexico, the ball will be going FAR ?

Yes, that 355.9-yard carry is real, and by all indications, this week is going to be spectacular. Get ready for some fireworks!
