By the end of the 2018 season, you could be forgiven if you lost track of just how far Tiger Woods had come since he first teed it up in his most recent comeback. While his strong T23 debut at the Farmers Insurance Open would prove to be a harbinger for success, there was always that cloud of doubt that followed him over the first few months of the year.
However, with each made cut and top-20 finish, those questions and concerns slowly dissipated, culminating with Woods contending on the back nine in two of the four major championships and capping off his season with a victory at the Tour Championship at East Lake.
While much of the country is taking time around the holidays to decompress, relax and reflect, ESPN is bringing golf fans a chance to do the same by producing a film in conjunction with PGA Tour Entertainment documenting Woods’ comeback season.
“Beginning with his return to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge in Albany, The Bahamas, in late 2017 and culminating with his stirring victory at the 2018 TOUR Championship in Atlanta – the 80th of his PGA Tour career – the film captures the season that reenergized the career of arguably the game’s greatest player,” a release from ESPN said.
“With new, never-before-seen content, including multiple interviews with Woods, viewers will get behind-the-scenes access to PGA TOUR events central to Woods’ return, including the Valspar Championship and the TOUR Championship, featuring stylized off-speed cameras and inside-the-ropes viewpoints.”
The film will feature interviews with more than 60 PGA Tour pros and other professional athletes, as well as a never-before-seen interview with Woods’ caddie, Joe LaCava, which will shed light on what it was like to see Woods’ return from right beside him.
The mini-doc will air on ESPN on Sunday, December 30 — Woods’ 43rd birthday — at 9 p.m.
