Three years ago, the European Tour rolled out a hard-hitting interviewer named Billy Jenkins.
At only nine years old, Jenkins had the excuse of youth for his pointed and ultimately, hilarious, line of questioning, but three years later when Jenkins made his return to the Tour at last week’s Race to Dubai finale, some of his previous foils weren’t so keen to sit down with him.
In an obviously-staged, but still-fantastic video, Billy attempts to rekindle his “career” as a kid journalist by chasing down the biggest names in the sport.
The video begins with a TMZ-like walk and talk with European Tour Communications Director Scott Crockett who says, “from a European Tour perspective we just found his approach a bit risky.
From there on, we see a litany of stars who Billy interviewed previously as well as those who know a setup when they see it coming: Henrik Stenson, Rory McIlroy, Thomas Bjorn, Ian Poulter and Tommy Fleetwood.
The brilliant payoff of the entire thing is Open Champion Shane Lowry walking over to Billy as he admits defeat to the camera, only for the 12-year-old to blow off the Champion Golfer of the Year.
Well done, European Tour.
If you want to see some of the work that Billy put in previously, which is the main reason for the standoffishness of the Tour’s biggest stars now, check out the playlist “Little Interviews” below.
