Here’s your weekly dose of “the modern golf ball goes too far.” Over the weekend at the BMW South African Open, European Tour rookie Jordan Smith pulled 3-iron on the tee of the 303-yard (277 meters) par-4 12th hole… and he wasn’t laying up.
The 24-year-old Englishman admittedly was playing the hole slightly downhill and downwind, but to fly a ball pin high with a 3-iron is insane.
Of course, the shot is only as good as the putt that follows it, and Smith jarred it for an eagle 2 en route to a final-round 68 and his best-ever finish on the European Tour, solo third.
