United States Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk rounded out his squad heading to Paris in two weeks with the No. 15-ranked player in the world, Tony Finau.
Furyk notified Finau of his selection following the completion of the weather-delayed BMW Championship on Monday afternoon in which Finau finished in a tie for eighth place.
“I’ve still got goosebumps,” Finau said. “I’m just ecstatic. I don’t know if I can really put it into words. All the emotions that come with accomplishing something like that; man, it’s a dream come true for me.”
Finau’s finish at the BMW was his 11th top-10 of the season and his third straight in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Finau is No. 3 in the FedEx Cup standings heading to East Lake next week for the Tour Championship. As one of the top-5 players in the standings, Finau controls his own destiny in terms of winning the FedEx Cup.
“He checked a lot of boxes and made it impossible not to pick him,” Furyk said.

“It’s something that’s very, very special for me,” Finau said. “This is right at the top of my career. I don’t think anything in my career could trump playing my way onto the Ryder Cup team.”
Finau joins Bryson DeChambeau, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson as captain’s picks. The rest of the team is made up of Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, Justin Thomas, Webb Simpson, Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson.
The Ryder Cup will take place at Le Golf National outside of Paris from Sept. 28-30.
