Gilchrist the Best Teacher on the Planet Right Now

Golf instruction can be extremely subjective — what resonates with some players will not necessarily click with others — but when widespread results lead to multiple players reaching the No. 1 ranking in the world, it’s safe to say the teacher is onto something.

Gary Gilchrist, a Golf Digest Top 50 Teacher, Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher and owner of the world’s top junior golf academy, may just be the best teacher on the planet right now. With her win on Saturday at the Blue Bay LPGA —  her second in as many weeks — Shanshan Feng became the third of Gilchrist’s students to reach to No. 1 Rolex World Ranking in 2017 alone.

Joining fellow Gilchrist students Lydia Ko and Ariya Jutanugarn, Feng became the fifth LPGA player to ascend the rankings this year.

Other members of Gilchrist’s professional stable include Paula Creamer, Yani Tseng, Morya Jutanugarn and PGA Tour pro Morgan Hoffmann.

By a vote of his peers, Gilchrist made the largest jump among the teachers on the Golf Digest 50 Best Teachers in America list, moving from 47th nationally in 2016 to 21st in 2017. He also rose up the ranks by state, being named 9th in the state of Florida, up from 13th in 2016.

“Golf is always about learning and improving no matter what level of golf you play,” Gilchrist said. “It’s always a great honor to be selected by my peers for this Top 50 award. Over the years, I’ve learned a great deal from some of the coaches on this list and consider several as mentors in my career.”

Gilchrist has lent his expertise to amateur golfers as well through the golf instruction app Swing-U. Through the Swing-U instruction and training app, Gilchrist’s teaching philosophy is now available to anyone with a smartphone. Students can receive 1-on-1 instruction with personalized lessons, drills, fitness and training, focused across all aspects of a student’s training.
