Jim Furyk shooting a 58 two weeks ago at the Travelers Championship must have been a little like Roger Bannister running the under-four minute mile because in the few days since the feat, PGA Tour pros are threatening to shoot in the 50s again.
On Saturday at the regular season finale, the Wyndham Championship, both Si Woo Kim and Lucas Glover had putts to go sub-60, but neither could convert. For Glover, his try at history was followed up by a historically bad attempt at a tap-in.
Golf is hard.

Glover has never been hailed as a great putter, but impact like this deserves a spot in a weekend game with 10 handicaps. Look away if you have a queasy stomach.
Got to be one of worst putts have ever seen! “He nearly missed that” Lucas Glover has a putt for 59…3 putt bogey pic.twitter.com/1runfsEIS4

As the announcers said during the broadcast, Glover’s round may have been the most disappointing 61 in PGA Tour history. The 2009 U.S. Open winner’s 9-under par second round moved him to 10-under for the tournament and two back of Kim who also had a look at 59 on Friday.

Kim will need to keep the pedal down if he wants to earn his first career PGA Tour victory. The likes of Jim Furyk, Hideki Matsuyama, Rafael Cabrera Bello and Brandt Snedeker are all lurking within a few shots as they head to the weekend in Greensboro.
