Betting on golf is not for the faint of heart. Handicapping and wagering on a game that is so fickle from day to day seems like it would be a fool’s errand, but there’s a fool in Ireland this week who’s nearly €11,000 richer as a result of it.
The Irish Mirror reported on Monday that a bettor put down €10 — the equivalent of $11,37 — on Xander Schauffele and Cameron Champ both pulling out victories at this week’s respective PGA Tour stops.
It was a parlay bet, which means that even though Schauffele emerged victorious in Shanghai at the WGC-HSBC Champions as the bettor predicted, if Champ didn’t win the Sanderson Farms Championship, the bettor would have been out his €10.
Instead, Champ did come through for him at a 65-1 price while Schauffele was touted at 50-1 at BoyleSports, Ireland’s largest independent bookmaker, where the bet was made.

“A golf double is no mean feat and we have to tip our hats to the Mayo punter who correctly predicted wins for Cameron Champ and Xander Schauffele in their respective tournaments transforming their €10 into an impressive €10,950 in the process,” BoyleSports spokesperson Aioffe Hefron said.
