Everybody loves a hole-in-one, and we were treated to a beauty on Sunday during the WGC-Dell Match Play from Japan’s Hideto Tanihara. The 54-seed made a cinderella run through group play taking down Jordan Spieth on day one but ultimately fell to current World Number One and eventual champion Dustin Johnson in the semis on Sunday morning. But that didn’t stop him from hitting the shot of the day.
During the consolation match against Bill Haas, the 38 year-old 14-time winner on the Japan Tour stepped up to the 7th hole and hit a perfect 8-iron. The ball landed short of the pin and tracked the entire way until it found the bottom of the cup. Tanihara would eventually lose to Haas, but his performance earned him a spot in the field at this year’s Masters.
As for the winner, Dustin Johnson put on quite a show at Austin Country Club, rarely trailing the entire week while bombing drivers deep into the Texas sky. He was on cruise control through group play and into the semis where he faced the streaking Tanihara who made him go all 18 for the first time all week. He then faced a red-hot Jon Rahm in the final match, but the 22-year Spaniard fell behind quickly. He made a late charge to cut the deficit to one with birdies on 15 and 16, but in the end, DJ proved to be too strong. This marks Johnson’s third consecutive PGA Tour win and fifth WGC title of his career. It also tightens his grip on the top spot in the World Golf Rankings.

Meanwhile at the PGA Tour’s opposite field Puerto Rico Open, D.A. Points claimed his third career PGA Tour title after firing a final round six-under 66 for a two-shot victory.
