John Daly In Position For First Pro Win Since 2004


It’s been a while since John Daly has had a legitimate shot to win on any Tour. However, Long John finds himself with a one-shot lead heading into the final round at the PGA Tour Champions’ Insperity Invitational after firing a bogey-free seven-under 65 on Saturday at The Woodlands Country Club in Texas. Now, the 51-year-old two-time major winner – and living legend – has a chance to claim his first professional victory since 2004, and his first on the Champions circuit.

“It’s not a familiar place I’m in. It’s going to be great,” Daly said, according to an AP report.

Daly said he’s got a putter “that I absolutely love, and I’m rolling it really good, and you never know, next week it may not show up, but I like the way I’m rolling this putter.”

As for his plan of attack on Sunday? “So I’m just going to kind of get a little more aggressive like I have been this week,” Daly said. In other words, grip it and rip it.


In other news, Jack Nicklaus is participating in the same event, along with Gary Play, Lee Trevino and other greats. Apparently, the Golden Bear came out of hibernation for this one shot he hit on Sunday:
