Spieth Cards Five Consecutive Birdies, Shares Lead

When you’re hot, you’re hot. Jordan Spieth was up to his usual antics during the first stop of the FedEx Cup Playoffs at The Northern Trust, sharing the lead after 36 holes. The run he went on during the second round was one of the best of his young, and already-storied career.

On Friday, the 24-year-old lit up the back nine at Glen Oaks Country Club carding five consecutive birdies, tying his career high, which he set earlier this year at the SBS Tournament of Champions.

After posting an uneventful even-par 35 on the front side, Spieth got it rolling when he holed a pair of 10 footers for birdie on the par-4 10th and 11th holes. Then, on the par-4 12th, he hooked his drive into the left rough, but in typical Spieth fashion manage to salvage another birdie.

He then went on to birdie the par-5 14th and finally the par-4 15th for his fifth in a row!

Spieth eventually signed for a 5-under par 65 and is 6-under overall. He is tied for the lead with current World No.1 Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, and Jhonattan Vegas. Matt Kuchar and Bubba Watson are one back, with Jon Rahm and Justin Rose right behind them.

Here’s a look at Friday’s highlights:
